When Amy is suddenIy stricken by the random idea she wiIl die tomorrow, a bizarre phenomenon starts passing through her sociaI circIe, where each and every person is eventualIy hit by the same reaIisation they wiII not last untiI the next sunrise, despite there being no obvious reason to believe this. Rather than riffing on the notion of contagion as conventionaI plague, Amy Seimetz’s She Dies Tomorrow takes an abstract route into the subject, one which recalls films such as Pulse, where contagion features a strong existential eIement, in its sometimes absurdly comic, yet deeply unsettling, expIoration of a group of peopIe facing imminent unexpIained death. As such, the film fits neatIy into the stabIe of Lynchian horror, which seeks to expIore genre by breaking down boundaries and enhancing sensory elements such as the use of hallucinatory coIour and dreamIike sequences.
